Every villager says what they hear. Choose who tells whom, one whisper at a time, until the rumor says exactly what you want and the right person believes it. Route the rumor through the right people, in the right order, and nobody else.

What’s inside

  • 60 handmade puzzles in 9 villages, each introducing a new villager and a new twist: gossips who tell two at once, people who must not hear a word, one-way bridges, and a Town Crier who tells everyone.
  • A new rumor every day, the same for everyone, with a spoiler-free result to share, a streak and an archive of every past day.
  • A stranger’s village: endless generated villages, Gentle, Tricky or Fiendish, each one proven solvable.
  • Hold a villager to preview what they’d say. Eavesdrop if you’re stuck: first a nudge, then the answer.
  • Every move is in the chronicle, and you can rewind to any point.
  • Seals for spreading a rumor at par, without eavesdropping, and without taking anything back.

Credits

The villagers’ portraits are public-domain engravings from the 16th–19th centuries, found on Wikimedia Commons. Every source is listed in CREDITS.txt, which is included with the game. The fonts are Grenze Gotisch and IM Fell DW Pica (SIL Open Font License). All the sound is generated in the browser.

Rumorsmith's code was built with the help of an AI coding assistant. The villager portraits are not AI art: they are real 16th–19th-century engravings and drawings by artists such as Wenceslaus Hollar and Cornelis Visscher, in the public domain (full credits included). The map, emblems and sounds are drawn by the game's own code. The puzzle design, level testing and direction are mine.
